It won’t. Texas already has both open and concealed carry laws in place. These laws will not be affected as they were voted on and passed by the Texas State Legislature. An individual may currently carry openly or concealed without a permit, although a mechanism is in place to obtain a ‘License to Carry’ or LTC. There are restrictions in place on locations where firearms may be carried, such as hospitals, bars, polling places on Election Day, etc.
The state-level restrictions on short-barreled shotguns and short-barreled rifles were removed by legislation passed in the 89th session of the Texas Legislature, but federal registration requirements remain in place. Machine guns are prohibited unless registered with the federal government. After the independence act is passed, the laws governing these restricted firearms must be modified, as they reference federal government gun laws. However, any modification would require passing a bill by a majority of the collective Texas State Legislature.
